We had an amazing outreach opportunity last Saturday to love our neighbors by hosting our annual Fall Fun Fest. The Lord blessed us with perfect weather which allowed for lots of guests. Children, candy, carnival games and laughter were the theme of the day. Some of the favorite stations were the wagon rides, face painting, ladybug race, apple bucket toss, blow up basketball shoot and, of course, the snacks. The popcorn poppers popped continuously for three hours.
Nine chefs brought their best pot of chili to be tested and examined by all of the guests. Getting the most #1 votes was mother/son combo, Misty and Elijah Meece. The name of their chili is simply Meece Family Chili. (Look for the mysterious ingredient.) LifePoint bakers did not disappoint! Competition was tough as it was a remarkable year for sweets. Professional Chef Chris Henderson determined the winners. Coming out as #1 in the breads/muffins/cookies category was high school student, Emma Grace Smillie, with her recipe for Peanut Butter Blossoms, baked to perfection. First place in the cakes/pies/cobblers/crisps was first time competitor, Jennifer Garcia, with her picture-perfect Campfire S’Mores Cake. Lily Cazee showed her baking skills by winning the kid’s category with her Homemade Yeast Cinnamon Rolls. Check out her recipe to find the special ingredient in her maple frosting. Try any of these recipes and you’ll be clappin’!
A special shout out to Crystal Baer, Hannah Drent, Elizabeth Smillie and Shelley Speiden for joining the planning team. The team spent hours planning, shopping and setting up to make everything run smoothly. When you see them, be sure to thank them.
This day is a highlight of the year for me because it allows our families to have fun together and invite their unsaved friends and neighbors to experience Christian hospitality in a non-threatening way. I always get to meet people who live in the nearby neighborhoods and don’t have a church home. We encouraged people to sign up to win a door prize and to let us know how we can pray for them. It’s a privilege to invest in people’s lives who need the Lord and who live in our backyard. We hope that through our LifePoint family showing kindness, our visitors had a good experience and will want to return on a Sunday morning.
Happy Fall!
