Jym's Shorts - November 5, 2020

Greetings!
What do pumpkins, a Frisbee Toss, a Turkey Shoot, chili, apple pie and the sound of shrieking children have in common? LifePoint’s Annual Fall Fun Fest!
I was thrilled to be able to organize the event this year since no one will dispute the fact that 2020 has been anything but normal. Our committee of Crystal Baer, Libby Davis, Hannah Rubsom, Shelley Speiden and myself had to make a lot of changes to make it “Covid-friendly,” but Pastor Jym was very encouraging as we forged ahead.
The Fall Fun Fest is the second biggest outreach for our children’s department. While we don’t formally present the gospel, we do purpose to serve and display the love of Christ to the many visitors who come.  Our motivation was Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Each family was encouraged to enter the door prize contest by filling out an information card. This card had a place for them to share a prayer concern as well as communicate if they are currently attending a church. I follow up with these people which gives me a change to pray with them and share Christ in a more intentional way. It’s a privilege to invest in people’s lives who need the Lord and who live in our backyard.
If you attended the Fall Fun Fest you probably tasted the five different chili entries for our Chili Cook-Off. This was our 10th year to have this contest. Congratulations to Nancy McIntyre for receiving first place!
We also had our 2nd Dessert Bake-Off with three categories and 20 participants. Thanks to Chef Chris Henderson, who attends LifePoint and works at Table by Market District in Carmel, for judging. Seven year old Olivia Smillie won the kid category with her Fried Apple Pies.  Jeff Beltz’s Sourdough Bread won the breads/muffins/cookies group. (Jeff has generously offered to give anybody a starter. If you’re brave enough to try homemade bread, email him at  .) And lastly, High school student Hannah Ellinger won the cakes/pies/cobblers/crisps category with her Pumpkin Spice Cake.
If you missed these tasty treats, the winning recipes have been posted on our website. You could impress your guests this season by including all of these yummy items on your Thanksgiving table!
A big event like this takes lots of volunteers so a big shout out to the 47 people who gave up their Friday morning to set up, their Saturday afternoon to help lead games and activities, and all of you who donated candy and door prize items. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Looking forward to next year!
-Mary
